Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

Short version: When you sign our petition, we collect your name and email address so your entry is recorded. We never sell your data. We never publish individual names without consent. We never send you unsolicited marketing. You can request deletion at any time.

1. What We Collect

TenantPetRights.org collects information in the following contexts:

A. Petition Signers

When you sign our ESA Denial Petition, we collect:

  • First name and last name
  • Email address (required to join the petition)
  • City and state
  • Date the incident occurred (month and year)
  • Type of violation selected from provided options
  • Who denied the ESA (landlord, property manager, screening service, or HOA)
  • Landlord or property name (optional)
  • Property name (optional)

This information is stored securely. Your full name and email are never published publicly.

B. What We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not use advertising tracking pixels (Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, etc.).
  • We use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool that does not collect personal information or build advertising profiles. See plausible.io/privacy.
  • We do not collect Social Security numbers, financial account details, medical records, or information about minor children.

2. How We Use Your Information

Information submitted through the petition is used exclusively for:

  • Maintaining the petition record: Your entry documents the scope of ESA housing discrimination for public interest journalism purposes.
  • Aggregated analysis: We analyze submissions in aggregate to identify geographic patterns and systemic violations — never individually identifiable reporting.
  • Communication: We may contact you via email about petition updates, related legal developments, or actions you can take regarding your ESA rights. You may opt out at any time.

What we never do:

  • We never sell your personal information to any third party.
  • We never publish your full name without your explicit consent.
  • We never share landlord or property names in individually identifiable form — only in anonymized aggregate.
  • We never use your information for advertising or any commercial purpose.

3. Data Storage & Security

Petition submissions are stored in a secure database. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. Petition submissions are transmitted to and stored in Airtable (Formagrid, Inc., San Francisco, CA), a third-party database service operating on AWS infrastructure. Airtable acts as a data processor on our behalf and is subject to Airtable's privacy policy at airtable.com/privacy.

We do not recommend including sensitive personal information — such as medical details or financial records — in any free-text fields on this site.

4. Data Retention

  • Petition records: Retained for the duration of this project. You may request deletion at any time.
  • Email communications: Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

5. Your Rights

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Deletion: You may request deletion of your petition entry and any associated data by emailing info@tenantpetrights.org. We process deletion requests within 10 business days.
  • Opt-out: You may opt out of email communications at any time by emailing info@tenantpetrights.org with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
  • California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise these rights, contact info@tenantpetrights.org.
  • Other state residents (Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others): You may have similar privacy rights under applicable state law. Contact us to exercise them.

6. No Commercial Affiliations

TenantPetRights.org is an independent journalism and public interest project. We have no affiliation with any ESA letter provider, documentation service, property management firm, legal referral network, or commercial platform. We receive no referral fees or commissions of any kind. Our sole mission is to document ESA-related Fair Housing Act violations as a matter of public interest.

7. Third-Party Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to measure site traffic. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track individuals across sites. It is fully GDPR, CCPA, and PECR compliant. No personal information from your visit is shared with Plausible.
